Reasons to sell a bass:

1. Financial reasons
2. Dislike of the bass
3. G.A.S. attack

All other reasons are a variation of one of these 3. So which one is it for you @Dr. Cheese ?? Why thin the herd?

I recently sold 2 basses for reason #3. It was a great decision.

I would argue that reason 4 is being a minimalist. There are some of us who dont want more gear than we need.

I have an immaculate pair of technics 1200 mk5 turntables. Which if you are in the know, you'll know. I haven't played them in 5 years, but GC will only give me $500 for them. Should I sell?

I have a hard time selling anything. I generally know the value of what I have and have a hard time dealing with people who want to talk me down so they can make a huge profit by flipping things. I am more likely to sell something to a younger, player at my cost than deal with flippers or stores. As a result I have a lot of musical equipment cluttering my house, but I'm divorced so its my mess to worry about.

GC isn't your only option... You could sell them privately and likely get a better return on your investment.

$500 for a pair of 1200's is an insane and completely unreasonable offer.

I thin the herd every few years, I often get stuff because i think it's cool and must have stuff, I tinker with it for a while and it then becomes a dust collector. At that point I sell off stuff I no longer use and start getting more stuff that may or may not become a real addition to my arsenal.

If you dislike something or like something better, it's a variation on dislike. That's my point. #3 can easily be "dislike/like something else better"

You have your opinion and I still disagree.


The idea that me liking something is a variation of dislike is a hoot, since you're pressing this. I could sell something that I like as much a the day I got it. I just don't want it any more and don't feel like I'll miss it. There doesn't have to be any dislike involved.

"I just don't want it anymore" is a perfectly legit reason to sell something, with no other judgement needed.

I don’t blame you for wanting my Fury. It is a seven pound P-bass with neck thinner than a Jazz. The great thing for you is that cheap Furies are pretty common.
