Those remind me of the laboratory kit I had when I was a kid. It came complete with some kind of large insect larva or pupa and a frog in formaldehyde to be dissected with the included scalpel. Fun times!
A couple examples: ET, a "classic" family movie with a PG rating, opens with a group of teens at the kitchen table smoking cigars, cussing, and playing poker while "mom" is right there whipping up dinner not even questioning it;
I remember being expected to walk/bike home from school at 7 years old, and beginning about that age, I was rarely within my parents' eyesight during daylight hours. That just doesn't fly today. It's not a question of what my kids are capable of doing for themselves - they're all intelligent girls and we've taught them not to follow strangers - it's a question of what other people in our society are capable of doing to a child, and how well we actually know our neighbors.
One of the funniest sitcoms to ever hit the air (& thee first to tape in front of a live audience)
Little faulty memory there. The kids weren't smoking. The mom was. They were cussing, but they were playing Dungeons and Dragons not poker, and waiting for pizza delivery man. (As Elliot stepped on the pizza when ET threw the baseball back.)
But, another movie reference, "Jaws" after the July 4th attack, the Mayor smoking in the hospital, and ash trays at the nurse's station..
Yep just looked it up myself too! Geez. How crazy is that? I wonder if ive got it confused with another movie. My memory sucks....
...and kids riding in the beds of pickup trucks. My Little League team did it all the time.
