Things to do in Denver?

My wife and I are going to Denver next week (our Daughter and her hubby live in Parker) and we're interested in things to see/do. We'll probably be staying at the Ritz downtown and using it as a "Base camp" for Day Trips.

Is there anything that's a "must do" when visiting Denver? We're open to driving a couple hours in any direction.

I'm wide open to suggestions!

The art museum is way cool downtown. I believe it is the Sheraton that has a lounge on the upper floor that gives you a very cool view from above of Denver.

If you have a vehicle, roll out to Red Rocks and give your lungs a workout.

I would recommend checking out the new art museum, they have an exhibit on king tut right now which I hear is really cool. Also, if you like beer check out great divide's taproom (real close to the ritz). For music, jazz @ jack's is pretty fun, it's in the pavillions off the 16th street mall. Take a drive through the mountains. etc. etc.

Denver, eh? Be prepared to get stuck in traffic if you are on I-25.

Go to Boulder, about 30 miles west of downtown Denver, and visit the Pearl St Mall....pretty cool place with some cool street performers. The shops are outrageously overpriced but there's some good food that's reasonably priced.

We live in Colorado Springs....we have....umm....that big mountain thingy, Pikes Peak..there's a train that goes up it that's pretty cool or if you're brave you can drive your own vehicle up it.

No place cool for live music here, at least that I know of.

16th Street Mall is a good place in the actual downtown area, another place that has pretty good jazz (if that's your kind of thing) is Dazzle Restaurant and Lounge. Rockies games are good, like others said Boulder is nice too and it's not all that far away. The Museum of Nature & Science is also another good place to check out if you get the chance.

Rocky mountain national park is an intense drive. It's a day trip though. The Denver zoo is pretty nice. There is plenty of good music depending on the day of the week. One of my favorite pubs in Denver is the falling rock. If you have a DD you could spend an entire day doing brewery tours especially in Boulder :D

These are great suggestions and I appreciate everyone's input!

Our plan is to ent a convertible and do some drives to some different places and "see what we can see." That's what we like to do.
Top down, tunes playing, beautiful scenery and enjoying each other's company. :)

Easy then. Million Dollar Highway from Blackhawk to Estes Park. Gambling town on one end and Tourist trap on the other. If you do want to do the Rocky Mountain National Park/Trail Ridge drive that someone else mentioned, Estes Park is the gateway to that. Trail Ridge is definitely worth going over for a flatlander if you're a brave enough driver. (Its really not that bad.)

If you think you're going to get to Fort Collins, drop me a line and we can have dinner, cup of coffee, beer, whatever. ;)

Oh yeah, and Primus and Gogol Bordello are playing the Red Rocks on the 12th. Sure to be a kick ass concert.

But check out some of our microbrewery's in Denver, the Springs, Ft Collins, Longmont, Boulder. They are some tasty tasty places to go and visit.
