After I posted my comment on buying a VitaMix and hating it, I remembered that (thankfully) I didn't actually buy it. We got it from my mother in law when we moved her into assisted living and downsized her stuff. Even though it was free, I just hated the darned thing despite spending a good part of my lifetime with blenders, Osters, Food processors and now, Ninja's.

At least it wasn't something you paid full price for! My food processor was a housewarming gift, but it's just got so many parts, I never want to use it, let alone clean it.

5+ years ago, when I was getting divorced and moving, I bought a nice Cuisinart food processor with all the little accessories and a Vitamix high powered blender, because I love to cook.

It turns out a chef's knife, paring knife, serrated bread knife, and an immersion blender is really all I need/use and cleaning those fancy doohickies is just a paint in the butt. I haven't touched them in years

When we were young newlyweds we went through the Cuisinart phase.

We soon figured out that unless you're preparing a HUGE amount of something VERY FINELY cut, you can do it faster with a knife and don't have to clean up the Cuisinart parts.

On the other hand, the pasta machine (not one of those all-in-one electric doohickeys! The classic hand crank one! Marcato Atlas!) is worth the cleaning, if you've got some time and want the best pasta.

Several different pillows. My head and neck just weren't adjusting to any of them. I finally found a pillow by a company called Allswell that's working out really well for me.

A real popcorn popper....essentially an electric skillet with agitator and huge domed lid. Works but a b**** to clean. Stashed somewhere and reverted back to the microwave stuff.

It's official. There is, in fact, a method of making popcorn that could be a tougher cleanup. Ever thought about adding a pressure vessel and open flame to the process? Ya me neither but this is awesome:

I bought a programmable tea brewer on an impulse, and it was totally not worth it. I've never used it after the first time.
