I have been hugged by Lou Diamond Phillips, but it don't make me special, as he is a big hugger. To know Lou is to hug him.
Never did hug Sid! But I did once annoy his drug dealer, Rockets Redglare, so badly that he wanted to give me a pasting.

Someone in the article is quoted saying, "The good thing about Necco wafers is they never go bad. The bad thing is, they are never any good."
They are made in the state of Massachusetts and my grandfather, a shipbuilder, was from Malden. So he was supporting local industry with his candy habit.
My dad loved those things. I always thought they tasted like chalk.

(Well, the burgers at the local am/pm mini mart sometimes have a grayish pallor to them, but I don't think they're supposed to be that way...)

The gray Necco wafers are anise flavored like black licorice. They call them black instead of gray.
Each roll of Necco Wafers contains eight flavors: lemon (yellow), lime (green), orange (orange), clove (purple), cinnamon (white), wintergreen (pink), licorice (black), and chocolate (brown). The ingredients in Necco Wafers are sugar, corn syrup, gelatin, gums, colorings, and flavorings.
I loved Clark Bars. Can’t find them any more. Butterfingers are a poor substitute.
Do you remember when 5th Avenue candy bars had the almonds on top. They were like a Clark Bar with almonds. The almonds were eventually taken away.
Also, Zagnuts, are Clark Bars with toasted coconut instead of chocolate. Clark Bars and Zagnuts were made by the same Pittsburgh Company D. L. Clark at one time.

Those 5th Avenues have always been a favorite. I can still find those at a few places. I'd forgotten about the almonds...must have been decades ago they got rid of the almonds. Zagnuts are yummy, too, but haven't seen them in a long time. Chick-O-Stix are close enough substitute.

Cracker Barrel has some of that 'vintage' candy. But beware...the Clark Bars are NOT the same ones as we had back in the 60s & 70s. The new ones I tried had a strong molasses flavoring. Disappointing.
The Boyer Candy Company is only 1/2 hour from my office. They also have an outlet store there. You can buy Smoothies, Mallo Cups, etc. in bulk fresh off the line. You can also order online. Time for you to place an order for some Smoothies. YUM! drool
