I wonder...besides things like bicycles, manual can openers, and wind-up clocks and watches, how many purely mechanical things are still in use today?
I haven't watched that blaxploitation movie yet...and I've seen a lot of them.
You probably see the results of one of them more than you might think. Cameras mounted on top of them notwithstanding, the basic mechanics of the Steadicam are based purely on Newtonian physics. Barring the addition of certain accessories, there is no "on" or "off" (nor need for batteries to balance it) because gravity never shuts down.
Its inventor, Garrett Brown, related the story that while waiting backstage to follow Steve Jobs onto a stage, Jobs looked at the rig Brown was holding, and called it, "the most technologically advanced thing that's still analog."

Me neither. He was in few. I always loved his movie posters. He had a pretty good post football career, though.
I got one of these because it was the last year they came with a four barrel Holly carburetor and no computer. (1985)

I change out standard locksets to electronic for clients from time to time. I just don’t get it. You still need to carry or hide a a key for when the battery dies locking you out. It makes sense if you have an air b&b, but otherwise no.
