I wonder what year this photo was taken. I say, in the late 70s?
Remember when you could order Chemistry sets and all the chemicals were available with little or no questions? My parents old place still has some "divots" in the back yard from my chemistry "experiments".
When I was 12 or so I had one of those toroid ones shown just right of center. Mine was the bright yellow. I don't remember what happened to it. I loved that radio!
Given the style of hair and dress of the blonde in the central aisle, I'll go with ~'80-'82. Right on the cusp of the full-bore '80s upheaval, but with enough of a '70s hangover that slow-to-adapt inductries like furniture would still have such wares on the floor.
One of the kids I went to school with managed to blow himself up! He survived! Minus a few body parts!
Not sure, but I’m inclined to believe this is Marlo Thomas as “That Girl” doing her grocery shopping. 
That would still be a cool gadget it it were updated to modern specs. Heck I even buy a modern one!
With digital readout and capability to 'push' Bluetooth speakers.
