Think I am just a Two Jazz Bass Guy

Hey krovx,
1) The Marcus is well balanced IMO, just a bit heavy ... I play mostly upright so I'm not so used to slinging an electric for a night ... I could probably use some exercise as well
2) The flats sound like a German Panzer Division, the J pickups keep tone and note clarity on point, whereas my old P bass with 10 year old Labellas sounds like a drum with a hint of pitch.
3) IME the Geddy neck is much thinner (kind of like my Lakland 4/94 fretless) and also feels quite flat in the radius, though it could be my perception due to how thin it is ... I don't know the actual spec's. I could get down with a Geddy, or any neck really, but I like to stick with something I like .... which is why I got a 2nd Marcus.

Didn't realize that Geddy neck was that small because honestly the MM is quite a small bass neck. I love the tank reference! I think I should probably do a five string jazz with flats to contrast my Marcus.
I feel the exact same way about Fender P's. I've got two MIA's, one with rounds and one with flats.
Now have two Marcus Millers, one natural, one white.
One with Rotos and an OBP-1 for slapping

I've got a Jazz, a Jag (definitely NOT the same thing), and a P coming in. That'll pretty much do it for me.
Two un-modded 4 string P/Js (fretted Ibanez and fretless SX, both with Chromes light flats) take most of my time. Just got a Fender MIM Jazz 5 that will probably move the Ibanez to the closet when I get new strings (TI flats) and nut on the Jazz. My Steinberg Spirit 4 string (rounds, DB tuner) is gonna be for sale soon because it just never 'did it' for me.
I could scale down to Jazz basses only, my four and five string MIA Fenders, but I love my G&L SB-2 so much that I'll never do it. I love my straight up Fender Precision too, but it could go because overall I prefer my Jazz and the SB-2 for both tone and playability. In fact, my love of Jazz basses and my SB-2's neck has compelled me to order a G&L JB, which might get flats and kick the P out of the arsenal.
I'm currently a two-bass-er with one in the closet (A Schecter Stilleto) but right now my Jazzes are getting all the play -

I haven't purchased anything except Jazz basses since 2001. A MiA and 3 MiMs. I love the tone, period. I only have one now, had to sell the rest to make rent at one point, but my next bass will certainly be another Jazz. I would like to get a Precision again at some point, but the Jazz comes first.

I think the only other bass I would want at this point would be a Rob Allen Mouse or Deep. However, I lack that kind of money so it might be a long time before I could ever have one. Maybe a five string jazz, but always end up never feeling like using a five string, or just string up a four string as BEAD. I just love the sound of a jazz as well. We all just have that sound in our head that just sounds right, and a Jazz is that sound for me, both flat and round.
I've owned both, and The geddy lee neck is thinner front to back and more flat-backed in comparison. The Marcus miller is slightly more round on the back and a bit thicker. I honestly prefer the Marcus miller neck for laying down grooves, but the Geddy neck is best if your hands dont stay still for too long.
I feel exactly the same. Because bass, like guitar, is unbelievably expressive instrument. Like Steve Lukather said "If I played a lick, and another guy came in and played the same lick on the same guitar on the same amp, it wouldn't sound the same" (or something like that), but I've realised that that same phenomenon happens on bass too!
I don't know if it's a specific bass, more of a pickup layout but when I first started back in High School it was 100% P pickups. Ibanez P/J and a Peavey P were my main contenders.
Now since I'm back to playing bass, things are different. I'm looking at the grand scheme of things. Being a guitarist for so long I have my array of guitars, different pickups, different tonewoods, 6 and 7 string, neck profiles, yada yada. So I find myself approaching bass the same way, tonewood, pickups, 5 and 4 string, jazz, p, and soupbars. Even though my love is all for Jazz Basses!
Now since I'm back to playing bass, things are different. I'm looking at the grand scheme of things. I am playing predominantly Jazz basses these days, but can't stay away from a Precision for certain songs.
Also, I find that a P tunes down better than a Jazz when I play in open C#.
Over the last 6 months, my 2010 Fender American 60th Anni Jazz has been getting 90%+ of the playing time and my 2008 American Standard P is getting the rest.

My first bass was a Fender jazz and I have had many other basses but I always come back to a fender jazz. right now I have a MIA Fender P bass jazz and a Musicman Sterling. Love them all but the the jazz is my goto bass.
