Think you can hide in a crowd?

I might be an idiot and missing something,Mohawk , are you saying they got people to stand still for 15 min..while taking a shot of a them, did this a bunch of times with various groups, and then spliced it all together?

The people were standing more-or-less still for that time on their own accord, they are watching the hockey on the screen (large white box which we see that back of). They were all there watching the screen and the picture was taken section by section, then stitched together later on a computer.

There is some movement in the picture, someone earlier mentioned that they picked out the same person 4 times.

There are 2 ways of doing this -

A GOOD camera on a computer controlled tripod head that steps it up and down and across as it is clicking away, THEN, a really amazing software app pieces it all together. this is currently being done with the Mars lander to get hi-res photos.

A new approach, not yet in production, uses a giant array of small phone-type cameras to essentially do the same thing - only the scanning is electronic rather than mechanical.

So - Where do you store all those gigapixel vacation photos??

The second way (giant array of cameras) was the one they are putting on drones. I assume if it was on PBS that it is already in use somewhere. And yes, it was some insane amount of data. I forget the numbers, but it was the kinda thing where I couldn't imagine how to store it.

Why are people so surprised we've come under massive government surveillance? Some of us have been demanding this kind of stuff for years.

To be honest I like the idea of using drones to hunt down our enemies. That some scum who makes a living talking people into strapping on a vest full of C4 can't sleep for fear of a reaper putting a missile through his bedroom window gives me tremendous satisfaction.

As far as i'm concerned it's just a natural (and very high tech) evolution of the sniper rifle.

While I'm not crazy about the fact that American law enforcement is all in a lather anticipating the day they can start flying drones over their jurisdictions, I'm not in the least surprised.

When has our uncle ever let cutting edge technology developed in war go to waste when it can be used for fun and profit right here at home.

The people I know in the business say the FAA is currently handling a ton of airspace variance requests from LE at all levels wanting to get clearance to fly drones so it's just a matter of time.

Like the scene in "12 Monkeys" when Tiny is subduing James Cole and tells him "Just relax off into it Jimbo".

Where drones looking down on us 24/7 is concerned, we might as well take Tiny's advice.

Just as a reminder, here is what the street looks like in a country without personal freedom.

the gub'ment taking pictures of people is hardly new, no? ;)

anyway they are mostly too busy reading your personal emails and Facebook statuses these days. would it kill them to hit "like" every now and then? geez.

EDIT personally i'd prefer to know that i could be snapped in public by an Mi5 greyshirt if it means that nailbomb-packing ne'er-do-wells are collared before they can hit the detonator etc.

I love all this talk of freedom. It's a total joke, the vancouver riots were the most embarrassing act of freedom since democracy was invented. It was nothing but rich spoiled nobs throwing a temper tantrum because there team lost.

Seriously if you wanna talk of freedom goto another thread, your just clueless to the context of the vancouver riots. It was a truly shameful abuse of freedoms to say the least.
