I'm thinking about picking up a six-string bass. I'd like something with a slim neck, I'm thinking maybe Ibanez SR series. I've never had active electronics, I'm not at all against them, so I won't rule them out.

I play through a Mesa Boogie Buster Bass 200 watt tube head into an Ampeg B25B 2x15.

I don't want to pay more than $1000.

Any ideas?

It varies from place to place but I found mine for $800 brand new. That was a deal from Heaven though. You can find them used and in good condition for around $1000. Check here in the classifieds. They pop up from time to time.

Ibanez BTBs and SR's are in that range and both have slim necks and come with Bartolini Active electronics, and are a GREAT play. It's funny, I bought a 6 just for shock value as a ignorant kid, and now 5 years down the road without even noticing, I can't play anything less cause I'm so used to the economy of motion that they produce!

Between the Ibanez Sr and ESP Ltd sixers I like the ESP Ltd's better. They have a better low B to me. Necks are similair for slim fast nice narrow spacing. 54mm for the nut width. I also like the esp lt'd pups better then the Ibanez bartolinis tone wise. But either brand is a good choice, just personal pref thing. I be real surprised if one could find a nicer neck thru sixer new for the small $429 pricetag the B206fm goes for at internet stores. I played around with the idea of geting a sixer for same reason as a 2nd bass and the ESP won. Havent gotten one yet, cause I just cant justify the sixer neck yet even though it was best feeling one I tried.

WOW! This is a killer looking bass! It's heavy too eh? I like a bit of weight. I really like the body shape and the neck-thru construction. I see they go for about $1000 USD, which means I can get one for under a grand in Canadian dollars. I'm liking this.

I'm making a list of basses to check out this Fall. So far I have:
Ibanez SR 6-string
Ibanez BTB 6
Peavey Cirrus 6
ESP LTD 6er
Schecter Studio 6

I want to check out Carvin too, I'll have to find a local dealer or someone who has one to sell used.

SO far, as far as looks go, I'm loving the Schecter Studio 6 and Custom 6.

Having owned an ibanez btb, yamaha trb and played pretty much every contender out there (except for the Schchschscherterh studio, which I hear is nice) I can say that one would have to pry my cirrus 6 out of my cold dead hands.

But as usual, shop around. Playability wise, MTD Z6 is brilliant too. Not a neck through, but definately a solid, gorgeous bass. I'm not exactly sold on the electronics, but I don't think they're any worse than ibbys and such. Swap the 'nics and it could be heaven.

+1, Either the LB76 or the Icon 6 string. I love my 2 LB76s.
