Thinking about finally getting my 1st P...

Tried a Squier 60s CV sunburst and a 70s CV walnut yesterday and they were surprisingly comfortable to play and of course sounded pretty good. I'm familiar with Squiers, had a couple of Jazz VMs in the past (70s and 77) and found both very good instruments for that price point.

I'd love to hear 'pinions on any of those models, or any other Squier P I should consider. Not planning to go for a Fender or any P-clone at this point.

Thx

I think they are very solid basses.
I have a few including the walnut.
Prefer the 60's basses, I'll also add the pickups in the 70's are fine stock but not as full, (a bit thin) or less hot anyway, great bang for your buck on both, good luck picking, HUGE sale this week.

Buy both , compare > keep the one you liking > return another one to the shop has provide return policy.

For me, if both meet my QC expect and both sound nice, i will keep both , one load flatwound ,one load Roundwound.

When I started really getting into playing a few years ago, I picked up the surf green CV ‘70s P, because it looked quirky and fun. I loved it from the start and eventually wanted to try my hand at modding and put an EMG GZR in it, which was next level to my ears (even though I thought the stock pickup was great, I wanted more bite). Being new to this world of awesome bass gear, I quickly got a bad case of G.A.S. And decided I needed to sell it to fund my next eagerly desired bass, and that became an addiction :D. Almost 3 years later, I’ve learned the lesson of diminishing returns, as I have a Mod Shop P & an American Original 60’s P. They absolutely are amazing instruments that are my keepers from here on out, but I now realize I could have definitely lived with the $325 I spent on the CV ‘70s, because at least the one I owned was flawless.

I don't have any gig time on any of the newer Squiers but I always end up playing a couple when I stop by music shops. They can vary a bit in feel and sound IME, but I mainly play an 80's MIJ P and there's been a couple CV P's I've played lately that could give it a run. Try a few before you decide.

Also that walnut is *gorgeous*, but I'm a sucker for maple...
