Ummmmm yeah, a recinded job offer does equal fired.They wanted you, but now they don't? if the gig is on but not with "you" You have been fired. The only way it does not is if the gig has been totally cancelled.
Which is still a distinct possibility.
EDIT: My thoughts at the time were that he was just simply sent an email about an offer for a gig, not responded in a timely manner and it was offered to someone else, or the person he might've been filling in for turned out to be available, etc. No way to know since there was almost no info provided in the OP.
