Thinking of changing pickups on GL Fender

It's a passive bass but thinking of going active for a bigger sound. I play in a hard rock band that does a lot of 80's stuff.

What are your experiences for those that made this switch? I was checking out some Bartolini products as well.

I assume you are talking about a Geddy Lee? G&L is a totally different thing.

I wouldn't go active OR Bartolini if I were looking for a bigger sound out of a jazz. Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounders will give you more bass, punch, and volume than stock pickups. SD Antiquity II's or Aero's are also a good choice.

I switched out the electronics on my Geddy Lee. Was forced to as I messed up one of the pickups while trying to shield the cavities. I put some Seymour Duncan pickups in, not really sure which model. I am sure that they sound so much better than the stock pickups. About 2 years after I did that I dropped an Audere Pre in, sounds the same flat but the blend knob is much more useful than 2 volumes and the overall variability is a nice thing to have.

Tone happiness.

I didn't that with my MIM Jazz 10 years ago and for rock it is dead on. Full, Warm, Punchy.

Thanks for the opinions. I'm going to continue to look at other pickups that might do the trick.
