Okay everyone. This is a thought I have and would love some input, advice, criticism, etc. The concept is as follows. I would like a somewhat central location for recorded bass clips for the sole purpose of a tone comparison library. This may take a while to get off the ground and I'm even toying with the idea of taking this concept and creating a website around this or just keeping things located within a Talkbass thread .
Here's a format example.
-(Insert link to audio clip here)
-Make and model of bass used on track
-Specify if all bass components are stock
-If not stock, mention any mods. Pickups, electronics, neck, etc.
-Mention brand, type and gauge of strings used as well as age of strings.
-What equipment was used for recording. Amps, pre's, effects, compression, EQ, etc.
-What position of pickups and/or blend were used. Bridge, both, etc.
-Location of knobs on bass. Amount of volume, tone, blend, onboard EQ, etc.
-Style of play. Finger, slap, pick, etc.
-Where notes are plucked/struck. ''Fingering over bridge pick up", (type of pick) over neck pickup, etc.
Optional
-A performer's note/comment section. Example... "Skip to 2:04 to hear bass solo''
All levels of players would be welcome. This is a tone comparison concept and not a talent contest.
If this grows large enough, I would like to be able to host a website with a filterable search. So someone could theoretically choose from any or all of the aforementioned categories to search for a specific set up.
For example...
Bass: Schecter Stiletto 4
Mods: Stock
Amp: Ampeg Portaflex recorded direct
Style/Technique: Slap
Pickup selection: Bridge
Any other optional categories of course. Or one could simply search for one or two fields and leave everything else blank.
Please. I encourage all comments and suggestions. This might just be a pipe dream, but it may also turn into a valuable (and fun) resource.
