After attempting to sell a Butterscotch G&L ASAT on craigslist for about a year, I opted to offer it in trade for a near mint Ovation collectors series guitar. It seemed the Ovation owner was in a similar situation as it had been on the site for over 3 months.
To justify the sale, (to myself); until recently it was the one bass my wife hated and she described as Baby %&#@ yellow.
My reason for the bass purchase was kind of dumb as I bought it because the two guitarist in the band played Tele's and I thought it would be good to match on stage. Shortly after that, I'd purchased a pretty nice L2000 so the asat became redundant.
The trade went off well, with both of us driving up in the same model, year, and make of car.. Both had the same first name, he primarily a guitar player, me a bassist. We chatted for about an hour and I think we both left happy.
I'm slowly whittling down my bass herd and I think I'm currently at about 17 basses, now,4 ovations (all are slightly peculiar models) a few oddball instruments, and too much gear hidden away in racks.
My goal is to end out with enough gear to leave behind heirlooms for the grandkids, and not much for the wife to have to deal with in an estate auction.
I know Ovations are a guitar that people either love or hate, and I can deal with that.

. FWIW, I had a fretless ASAT for a few years and loved it. Those pickups should be classiffied as a weapon of destruction.
