THIS ALLEVA TONE IS KILLIN' ME!

+100
Actually, you prompted a nice, polite discussion, and I think (hope) this clarified the Alleva-Coppolo vibe a little bit for those who might be interested. Sometimes, we get in our heads that an expensive, high end bass is only about huge lows, aggressive preamps, multi-laminates, extended scale length, and zingy, hi fi tone, etc., etc..

Sometimes a hi end bass can just be taking a classic tone and doing it very, very, very well:)

^^

Hope nobody thinks I'm knocking the price point of the more basic models. The ones with the exotic wood tops are a little over the top price wise, IMO. I own and play MTD's so I'm OK with spending some cash on a bass, but some builders prices are a bit over the top on their "exotic" stuff.

If the tone, fit and finish is right then Jimmy's basses are not at all expensive.

That really did seem to come out of nowhere.

I don't see people knocking Jimmy's basses, most people are praising them, others said they sound like other basses which is hardly a knock. No one is complaining about his prices or questioning them. Just asking about possibly more affordable options.

If it works out that those other basses don't do what an AC does for you, no harm. Right?
:D

I do think you can ask about bass options based on a clip... because that clip is a representation of what you're looking for. It gets you well into the ballpark. I wouldn't recommend a Rob Allen based on it;)
