Agree with the above. Sounds like a set of bright flats (Chromes or similar) on a fretted bass played up nearer the bridge with a clean amp setting. Pattern is I-VI-IV (F-D-B). The player does a very quick half step slide up (or maybe a hammer-on) into the F and sort of swoops into the next notes to give it a hint of that "trombone" sound as you describe it.
Nothing fancy needed. You can do it all with just your hands.
