This can't be a 66 Precision Can it???

This is "supposed" to be vintage 66 Precision with the only modifications being the pick guard. The headstock may be original but something looks "fishy" with the rest of it.
How much of this bass can really be vintage????????
Is the body even a real Fender?

That body looks awfully 'tall' to me, and I don't see as much red as I usually do in the older Fenders that are posted here

Touche, was just pointing it out because he said that the only modification was a new pick guard. I wasn't sure if he overlooked the added jazz pickup or just didn't know.

Is there anyway to check authenticity of the body without removing the neck??? Any other clues? I figured the P+J wasn't right and the body looks way too new.

No way. That's the wrong headstock decal for sure and it looks like the wrong bridge. Maybe MIJ 62 reissue. Doesn't look like nitro, either.

Have you pulled the neck to check neck/pocket stamp? Pickup cavity should be dated as well...I think...CBS changed the process a bit in late 65-66

The fingerboard looks to be a slab not a laminate board. The color of the burst looks more like a MIM than a 60's USA Fender.

I found a real logo from 1966 and it's not even close. There is no comparison. The "F" is completely different.

IMHO, there is a tiny change the neck could be a '70's Fender neck, but the pictures are not adequate enough to rule it out.

Play it. If you like it and the neck seems straight with good frets and lots of truss rod turns left, offer $125.

Could this be some sort of a late 80's or early 90's MIJ RI with a P/J mod? The finish is a sort of '59 burst.
