THIS IS AWESOME!!

By the time you saw that Biohazard opener show, Fishbone had lost 3 original members, including the lead guitar, and keyboard players, (two of the main writers) and were being led around in a stupor by Angelo the certified nutbag. Not surprised it was sloppy/dull. They've been done as a creative force/band for like 15 years.

I can totally understand someone not liking something, but I'm curious as to what you thought of as filler on Truth and Soul, or Reality of My Surroundings? (Aside for the obvious answer of the bits of filler in between the songs, lol.) If you are basing Fishbone solely on some random songs you heard and one show when they were way past their prime, you missed some great ****.

+1 on Bad Brains! HR is a fergin' freak! The new record is even pretty damn good. :bassist:

Well that explains a lot. I can only keep trying, as I'm open-minded enough to think I'm wrong on them to this day. I can't recall which albums I had, but will dig 'em up again one day. I've watched the videos you posted, and ones others have put up in the past, and even those never grabbed me. Not saying it's bad, just that it doesn't hook me in. Maybe I carried some prejudice in watching them though. Hard to say. I can still recall that one show though, thinking "this mess is what people have been raving about for so long ?!??" Glad to know it wasn't always like that, regardless of whether I come to dig the tunes in time.

Yeah, the new Brains is awesome. Seen 'em twice earlier this year touring for it. Great times.

Reading my original post, you seem to have realized as I hope everyone did that the comments after the spacer ("--------") were general for the thread and not directed at you. Just in case there was any doubt.

ick... black metal.. :spit:

and I really don't get the whole "technical" or "symphonic" genres of death/black metal. What's different about em? 1 thing, and one thing only. The only scale they use is harmonic minor. Whoop-de-friggin doo.

And that would be where you are wrong.

Here is an example of technical:

And symphonic:

I don't like Dimmu but as you can see, you'd have to be pretty foolish not to be able to catch the difference between them.

I think a better example would have been Emperor versus Lunaris. Emperor being the "symphonic" example, Lunaris being the "technical" example. On the other hand Emperor were/are quite technical too. There are as many approaches to "black metal" as there are to jazz really.

As for claiming the only scale they use is harmonic minor, only someone that really hasn't listened to either of those bands would make that claim and so what if they did anyway? It's not all about which scale is being used.

I agree. I was thinking Emperor too, but just not sure why i didn't say that.

How did I miss a Fishbone thread?

I think Fishbone is a band that you have to see on a "good day." They are a great band, with some of the most amazing musicians in the business, but sometimes they can go off and turn a three minute song into a fifteen to twenty minute jam session. I've seen these guys and played with them enough to see them on their good nights and "bad" nights. Even the "bad nights" they still show amazing musicianship and it's a treat to see as a fellow musician. I think their last album "Still Stuck In Your Throat" is probably my favorite. While I'm a huge fan of all their previous stuff, I think this album has a ton of great songs with great hooks.

Their diversity is probably what ended up ruining them. Hell, on their "metal" album the last song on it is a slow ska/reggae-ish love song.

Plus, Rocky George is playing guitar for them now. Rocky George.
