1998-2014 is a good run for a forum, dont give up hope I still hang on to the possibility it will be modded more closely to the original.
If you're going to whine, do so constructively. I don't like it, either, but just pointing that out doesn't do any good.
I would like to see a forum theme that is easier on the eyes, like the old blue one. I do like having an avatar again, without being a supporting member, though.

Gee I find reading this sort of stuff disappointing.
The forum software had to change, Paul's done a large amount of research into available options, then done magnitudes more work making the transition incredibly smooth. He's managed to retain the process flow that the vast majority of users go through in their forum browsing, he's added a bunch of useful features, and above all he's done it with minimal downtime.
On top of that, this is the first day of use - there are always going to be teething issues. Layout modifications, missing elements, theming etc. The aesthetics especially are non-critical elements that can be improved in time.
6 months of back breaking work to find the best path to resolution, executed smoothly, and you thank him with a completely unconsidered, unconstructive one line response. Where's my dislike button?

I've seen other very popular special interests sites undergo similar unannounced "improvements" after which participation quickly dwindled. There is a certain arrogance about making these kinds of sweeping changes without even asking the user community any opinions. It is, after all, that community which makes the site function, not the honchos who make lots of money off us.
Its the first day! Give it awhile to familiarize yourself with everything. If you still hate it then offer up some constructive criticism.
Geez, you act like running a forum for a bunch of stingy grumpy middle aged men is big business. Something tells me it isn't exactly a gold mine. Anyways, it was a necessary move. If Paul could have stayed on vBulletin without issue, I'm sure he would have saved himself the trouble.

I don't necessarily agree with the WAY the change was done (there should have been a lot more notification to the members that it was coming via e-mail or PM), and I think they could have been a little more politic in explaining it, but it was a change that HAD to be done. It wasn't an arbitrary choice.

Unannounced is a stretch. Fair enough it wasn't announced via email, but it was definitely announced on the forums. I even participated in the request for testing.
"Making money" vs "generating enough revenue to pay for hosting and an admin" - I suspect you'll find it's more column B than column A
I agree that it's the community that makes it - the forum software only needs to be "good enough". Frankly, my opinion of VB3 is that it was only just "good enough" but it still managed to generate a huge and vibrant community.
Please change it back to the previous format and feel free to invoice me for my part of the cost in doing so. If forced to navigate this monstrosity, I think I'd rather give up. I cannot remember a more shocking "upgrade" to a forum that I frequent.

lack of privacy is another thing that irks me. i don't need TROPHIES or the names of people who agree with me. i notice that anyone who QUOTES you triggers an IM!!!! i mean i'm sure there is an option to defer, but really.....????

EDIT: I take it back. Once I learned how to get around the new software, I've found the site much improved. Sorry for the initial knee jerk response. (May 10, 2014)

The total Likes auto displayed with every post under the user name is too Facebook for me. Would very much "like" to be able to turn it off.
hi, sorry you feel that way. Can you be constructive and list what issues you are having in navigating the new site? We can't fix what we don't know about, maybe it's not something we can change but it's an faq item we need to add to aid with the transition.
