Double Bass This neck thing is much easier than I thought...

When some folk call me a "Malteaser", d'you think I'll be losing any sleep over it?Dude, Chinaman is not the preferred nomenclature.

! That's cool that you are putting some sweat-equity into the bass. I know nothing .... I play beat-up old American plywood basses. But I've had a little fun in this thread .... As a result of those Chinese-To-Over-The-PondScum-English translations and That Post by That Darned Arnold . I loved the part about using the delicate Luthier tool as a last resort on the neck .... The Chainsaw.
I looked at the E-Bay ad and ... WOW ... What beautiful wood, flaminess, and character !! I would be tempted too. Someone needs to teach the Song Tie Ji bass factory in China about hide glue and remind them of the fact that every bass sooner-or-later needs to come apart for repairs. If a luthier has to tear the-ever-livin'-crap out of one of those gorgeous STJ basses due to Epoxy Glues ... Well Then ... I would say that's a waste of wonderful (and probably rare) wood building basses that way.

P.S. We have a town called "Malta" here in my state of Montana USA. It is not an Island. It is a place you never want to visit unless you are a hunter . Up near the Canadian Border ... Fine Scenery .... But It Sucks. Minus 26°F with 35 mile-per-hour winds the other night. Folks sometimes pour their single-malt scotch shots from the tavern down into their old-truck's carburetors hoping that the damn-thing will start as they crank the starter so they can make it Home !

As it happens, I have a friend here in Malta who owns a bar that carries the biggest collection of whiskies (single malts as well as blended) I've seen outside Edinburgh. Let me know if you ever want to visit. We're easy to find if you use a magnifying glass on the map...under the "boot" of the Italian mainland is the "rugger ball"* of Sicily...and under that is the small piece of crap that flew off the ball when it was kicked. Mine is a hybrid, which in the circumstances I suppose is a (partial) relief. Also I live in a country with constantly high humidity and the bass lives in a house that isn't centrally heated. Still, sooner or later there'll be some fun and games.

Mine is a hybrid, which in the circumstances I suppose is a (partial) relief. Also I live in a country with constantly high humidity and the bass lives in a house that isn't centrally heated. Still, sooner or later there'll be some fun and games.

!! Edinburgh ... Easy ? .... Huh ? ... MMmmNNnnn ...I played some double-bass on a local Scots Caleigh Celebration / Dance a week-ago. The local Head-Dude fiddle / Celtic harp / teacher - player is Great. We played with his students (Boys and girls .... Aged from 5 to 16 years old). Very Fun. I try to play some bass-fiddle with several Celtic / Irish / Bluegrass bands ... We kick-some-butt-sometimes and mostly-have-fun .... Not quite what you would call high-level classical and fine-jazz playing
.I don't need a magnifying glass to know where Malta is
... Just don't boot me in My Ruggers ... I hate it when "small pieces of crap" fly off my balls when they are kicked

Regarding Chinese basses, I can say that I have one and like it. Regarding Epoxy glue I can say that mine isn't, and that I wouldn't recommend it. Also I can offer condolences. And perhaps a bit of levity.

Interestingly, check out eBay item 320318954032 and scroll down to the question from one prospective bulk buyer - a luthier. I wonder if he ever bought one to evaluate.
