Word 2007 is brilliant. Infact, Office 2007 is brilliant. It's so much more user friendly for heavy users.

+1! That's been my experience as well, and I'm not a "heavy user" at all. Count me in as a big fan of the new paradigm!!! It takes some getting used to, but I find it's much easier to find stuff.

That's fine but how many people are using Word 2007? I had no program to open it. I had to ask her to resave it as a .doc and resend it to me. I'm not spending $149 for a program I rarely use at home.

Yes, there is. Get it! And I believe there is a compatability pack for Office 2003 as well.

There is a Help file that tells you how to do everything, you know.
Once you get used to it it's really not that bad. I hated it at first too.

There is no tool bar at the top of the page, which is standard in any program ever created.

I have spent the last 15 minutes trying to figure out how to PRINT my frickin' document.

Usually you just go to File<print, but there is no File menu!

Well though Open Office is choice.

2007 isn't that bad and the ribbons are great once you get the hang of them.

ctrl + P = PRINT!
the file menu is there, click on the windows icon on the top left corner of the program. (yes took me 20 min to find it at first)

Only problems i've had with it is Access crashing constantly.

Office 2007 wasn't so hard for me to get used to. I really like the equation editor. My biggest gripe about it is the the page numbering system, headers, footers, section breaks... etc. If you need to add different footers to different pages on the same document... good luck. The section breaks make absolutely no sense and I can find no additional input on them in the help documentation. Basically, I had to waste about 15 minutes to figure out the screwy section breaking system they so ingeniously decided to change around.

I have an interesting and frustrating thing happening. I still use MS Office 2003 at work and home on XP computers. I've downloaded the conversion pack from MS so I should be able to open Office/Word 2007 files either place.

On my office machine, the conversion works fine and I'm able to open the documents. on my home machine, the conversion doesn't work. When I open 07 documents, all I see is musical notes rather than alphabetic characters. the only difference is that my home computer runs XP Home, and the office machine runs XP Pro.

This is definitely inconvenient. I'm not an MS basher, but they REALLY screwed the pooch by making these files a different format. They are NOT making friends doing this.

Personally, I love the 2007 version better than 2000 or 2003. I do a lot of work using Word and I can tell you I never want to go back to an earlier version!

You know what? You're right. And most people don't know that.

We use Office 2007 at home (employee discount -- we paid only shipping) and I agree: once you get used to it, it's easier to use IMO. I had to show my wife how to save as older versions (2003 particularly) so she could take that stuff to work.

What fancy insert tools are you thinking of? OOo got an equation editor, too. Works pretty well for my needs.

I'm using OOo/Neooffice for years and I still got lots of hair.

And screw Abobe CS3 while I'm at it too. I work on a project in InDesign, the lab closes, so I go to the 24-hour lab to finish it up, but they only have CS2, and now my file won't open. What the hell were they thinking when they made it this way? Extremly DUMB idea to not have compatable program usage.

Just export a version of the file as an InDesign Interchange file (.inx) and it will open in CS2.

I'm not sure what I think of the new version of Office, I haven't used it much. They have moved everything around a lot from what I can tell.

Seems like BB needs to spend more time with the help files telling him how to turn on the tool bar, or actually reading the read mes about compatibility issues and the butt simple fixes, than he does bitching about it on a bass forum.

And the short cuts for cutting/copying/pasting/printing have been the same across all platforms for like 2 decades.
