This web site and spam

I think the forum administrators really need to look at the registration process with a callback to a valid email address -- just now we are swamped with stupid spam and it will only get worse until the registration process is hardened.
The spammers have clearly kicked it up a notch in the last week, and we're doing what we can.

But please know that the registration process IS already about as hardened as it can be. A bass related question has to be answered, and an email is sent to the email address being used. There's a link there that has to be clicked on before the account can be used and posted with.

There's a fine line between safeguarding from spam and making the site too difficult to use for new people. We're considering what options we have to fight spam whilst also keeping the site open to new members.
