I am very interested in getting one of these Thomann Europe basses as a first acoustic upright. The prices are very attractive compared to anything that can be sourced in the UK. Searching the forums the best info is from Mikman who states these are made by Hora (Romania) for the 22 (hybrid) and 33 (carved) - and it appears the 1E is made by Strunal (their 50/4 model, all laminated - the blonde is rather pretty).
Given that I will be playing jazz, pizz style - which would be the better bet - the 22, 33 or 1E? I expect to be using a pickup, something like the bassmax. I already have an Acoustic Image Contra which I use with EBG and keyboard.
I fully expect to have to engage a luthier to skilfully set the instrument up and probably a string change too - any suggestions for strings? Fortunately I have a DB teacher nearby and I have some idea of the journey ahead of me having tried and failed to teach myself upright on a Stagg EUB...
Thanks
Nigel
