Luckily my local store, Absolute Music, is also One of the UK's biggest online store so I usually buy from them. However even they can't compete with the sheer size of the Thomann Catalogue.

I have used them once for a Konig and Meyer mic stand and it arrived in three days still is a superb stand.

There is only one problem when it comes to Thomann. They are so good, especially here in Germany, that they almost annihlate the competion and make things super hard for local music stores.

Even though there is certain things I do not mind buying from them unseen, the ones I do I would rather go to a store I can actually try. That said, their super high standards has raised the bar for everybody here in Germany, to the point I have never been to a bad music store so far.

To be honest I prefer supporting local stores, in my case JustMusic Berlin (biggest music store in an urban area in Europe, with great guys working there) and a couple smaller more specialized stores, but they are REALLY hard to beat.

Until very recently Musicstore was a close second, but I feel that Thomann has improved so much they are almost in a different league.

When ordering from Switzerland, things get slightly more complicated (since you have to pay customs).
But Thomann somehow manages to keep those taxes low.

I bought from Thomann for around 350 Euros and had to pay 34 Swiss Francs (12 percent) in order to receive the package from the postman. I ordered at Musicstore for 82 Euros which cost me 28 Francs (more than 30 percent).

Aledeville: Same thing in Norway, but they obviously have an agreement with the shipping companies to include those customs handling fees in the upfront shipping cost, so we only get the Norwegian 25% VAT in addition, which you also get in local stores. That means it takes a bit more time, but the price isn't bad.

Living in a remote location in northern germany, i have an hour's drive to get to the next music shop. They are badly sorted unless you want to buy Fender and often unfriendly.
The next good shop is a two hours drive. I make sure to go in there every time i visit the city and try to buy as much from them as possible to support my 'local' shop.
But 'the big t', as thomann is called in german forums is my choice when i need some spares fast. You place your order on
Thursday at noon and the parcel's in the mail on Friday.

My experience has been that they're often cheaper than UK prices (although the €10 flat shipping charge means that I usually wait until I have a few items to order). I've returned an item before and was blown away by their service. I didn't like the pop a pedal made when engaged so they emailed me a shipping label, I sent it back, they sent a new one, I still wasn't happy, so I sent it back (at their cost again) for a refund. Based on that experience I'm happy to order anything from them without trying (as long as I don't need it urgently) as I know the return process is so smooth.

As an aside, I just discovered that you can get paid in vouchers for reviewing your purchases - €5 for a short (30-100 word) and €10 for a long (100+ word) review, up to a maxiumum of €50. I only did it a couple of hours ago so nothing received yet, but from what I see on the web I should get my €50 in the next day or two. Very useful, as I have an order pending!

Wow, I had no idea!!!! I often just click the star ratings. From now on, I"m going to type as much as I can, ahahahah!!

To add to the above conversations, there is a 20 euro flat rate shipping fee to Greece for anything under 300 euro. 300 euro and over is free shipping. So, I try and bunch my orders together or place orders for my friends at the same time.

I am a big fan of Thomann as well. I do with they would be a little more flexible on prices when others are willing to be, but their customer service is mosdefinitely worth it.

And I can't believe someone was griping about their packing skills! I think they are awesome.

I believe I may have grabbed my GK from them, however many years ago.
I remember it came with a Euro plug. Them being German and all...
But I contacted them, and they seemed happy to just send a UK one over. I would have been fine just picking one up for the little money they cost, or probably find a spare around the house. But I thought that was cool of them.

I believe I also grabbed my Presonus Firestudio Project from them, which ended up being faulty. They sent me a free shipping label to send it back, and replaced it within about a week.
So lots of good feels about Thomann.

Another happy Thomann customer here. I've spent €1000's with them over the last 10 years and have never had a problem with their customer service. Their 3 year warranty is great!

I received a €50 voucher from them for the reviews I wrote. It's limited to €50 per customer and I don't think the offer will last much longer. It was a way for them to gain a lot of reviews in a short space of time as they have only just started the product star ratings on their site AFAIK

Does not happen very often but we are both right. I had a quick look and the offer mentioned in this thread holds only for certain languages. I write my reviews in german and I do not get any information about the voucher. When I switch to the UK version to write a review, I can get the voucher, too. Strange enough, the system won't let me write reviews in dutch :-)

So my sincer apologies - bit of a weird thing

That explains it! I thought I read something about it being to encourage reviews in English. They must offer it as an incentive for those countries where they don't have many reviews yet, unlike Germany. I'm sure at some point they'll stop offering the deal for the UK site but for now I'm glad I got my deal.

A fretless bass for €83 (after voucher)? Yes please!

Let us know how you like that fretless! I've been wanting to get my first fretless as well, and that is the one I've been considering.
From the pic, it looks like it has a lined fretboard. Correct?

Prior to buying that, however, I'm determined to buy this EUB

Nice EUB! Yes, it's lined - and I'll review it when it comes in (although they aren't in stock until mid-February). The Harley Benton stuff, from my experience so far, is good for the money and especially when you're just starting on an instrument and don't know whether you'd want to carry on. So they were a good choice for my first mandolin recently.
