Thomastik Infeld Superalloy IN345: Best.Strings.Ever

They might be a bit rough on the frets...I sold one of my basses with them on it and the guy said the frets werent the best...and I was like wow I barely played that bass.
They are nickel outter wrap though I think.
I just got a Fender select Jazz yesterday and put them on and they sound great! I just wish they made one gauge lighter....I think they only have regular gauge.....they are odd sized they go from .106 to .080 to .065 .045

I just replaced my D'Addario XL set with the Infelds, here's my first impressions:

Feel:

Their surface doesn't feel too different compared to XL's, maybe ever so slightly rougher, IIRC similar surface feel to GHS Boomers.

Tension:

Once again, very similar to D'Addario XL's, so I'm very happy with the Superalloy's tension. The B-string has a great feel, my bass is a 35" scale, and it feels nice and taut. The G and C strings feel slightly more flexible compared to XL's.

I've only played my bass acoustically, but I can hear the Superalloy's have a stronger, fuller midrange tone, especially in the lower mids. IMO their tone is richer across the strings, and string to string balance is outstanding. The Superalloy's aren't quite as zingy as XL's new out of the pack, but they still have great definition. Another plus is the 34" scale set fits my 35" scale Ristola nicely. I only had to trim a bit off my B and C strings, the remaining strings were long enough to make at least 3 winds around each tuning peg.

My amp gear is in my basement, If I get time to move my kid's stuff out of the way to setup my amp before I head back to work, I'll post my thoughts on the Superalloy's tone through my amp either today or tomorrow.

At this point, I think I've found my new favorite brand of strings for my Ristola. :)

wait 3 months....they will still sound the exact same as the day you put them on! I just ordered 2 more sets of them for another new bass coming in. going to have 2 of the same bass select active and passive and putting the same strings on both! the active just sounds so incredible with them!

Hey guys, is somebody still reading this after all these years?

I bought a set of Superalloy IN345 and was very surprised to find out that the B string is that long despite being labeled for standard 34 inch! I don't dare to put them on before asking around. Have you had the same experience? I mean this is way too long to bet wrapped around the tuning peg, isn't it?

What's the actual length of the B string from the ball end to the start of the silk? If it's "long scale", it should measure around 37".

No experience with superalloys, but the TI jazz rounds that I like are only available in extra long, same as your picture. After a bit of hesitation I tuned them up with about one wrap of bare string around the tuning post. No problem at all, I now have TIJR on four of my basses, some with thinner 3/8 tuning posts and no breakage.
Of course the SA might behave differently….

That's the length of the "super long scale". If the set you have is "IN345", it's for 34" scale (= long scale) and the B should be 37" from ball end to silk. Looks to me like the "super long" B string got mixed in with the "long scale" set by error. So, they should send you a replacement. It actually belongs to the "IN365" set.

Thank you for your input - this would make a lot of sense since I did buy the IN345. And now I finally know what the numbers do stand for. :roflmao:
