Thomastik jazz bass flatwound electric bass strings

BTW, you can find TI JF344 flats on Amazon for $60-$65.
And, YES, they are the real thing. I've been buying them off Amazon for the past 3+ years. Best string investment you can make, as I've had them on two of my basses now for 10+ years. ;)
This.^ Never experienced a painfully bright breaking period. TI flats sound great right out of the box and then for the next dozen years. I have them on all my basses because they bring out the best in each, be they solid, semi hollow, or hollow body.

I also use - and like - the TI Jazz Flats, but...
I only have them on one bass - out of 27. Why?
- I play a lot of music that they simply aren't particularly well-suited for. I need "Old School Thump" a lot of the time - which is something that TIJF's just don't do very well...
- TIJF's are famous for their harmonic overtones. I have a bass that, for what I play with it, really needs those overtones. Which is why it wears TIJF's. But, for most of what I play? Don't really need those harmonics - so those basses wear something else...
- TIJF's are also famous (or infamous) for their flexibility. I've been playing basses with flats - mostly pretty stiff flats - with a pick for 50+ years, now. It's hard, and time consuming, for me to adapt my playing style to play TI's with a pick. I can, but... why bother? The only bass I own with TIJF's on it, gets used for music that's not well suited for playing with a pick anyway, so... no problem.
So... for me? TI Jazz Flats are pretty much One Trick Pony strings. But, for that one trick? I can't really think of a better string to use...

If not already mentioned, digital calipers. Measure the string thickness. Should be 0.043, 0.056, 0.070, and 0.100
