Those Pesky Demons ...

Mine arrived from China yesterday (about a week nearly). Nicely packaged! First impressions out of the box - seems pretty solid and well made, with a nice feel to the pots and foot switch. Will try to give it a proper test drive later. If I like the general mojo of the thing, I’ll likely want to try the real thing at some stage, if only out of curiosity. By the way, has anybody out there in TB land got anything to say about the Origin Effects stacked version?

update on the Demonfx Call76. The Origin is obviously a much higher quality build with the relayed bypass and visual indication of the the compression, but after playing around with the CAll76 today and comparing it more in depth with my Origin, i have to say it actually sounds pretty darn close to it and IMO, is an extremely affordable alternative to the cali76 compact bass.

it ends up that it does have visual indication of the compression in the way of a 5 led bar (10 MD blue leds in parallel) but you can't see them since it's inside of the pedal facing downwards. it's actually a very good comp in its own right, especially if ripping off the look of the origin doesn't bother you.

Just got the Lyr Stacked Edition. The build quality is way better than the Demon Compact Bass. The casing appears to be steel and the knobs have a much less cheap feel. It’s probably twice as heavy as the Demon.

Is that a pic of the actual pedal you received? I’m a bit surprised they’ve actually had the balls to write “Origin Effects” on there, if so. @chout

How does it perform and sound as a compressor? Thanks for the input.

sounds like a clone that they copied the circuit, did their own smd layout but didn’t think about being able to actually see the leds! :o

Hey there, chout! Would you mind share more opinions about the Lyr Stacked Edition, since its been a few months?
1. How do you feel about the pedal nowdays?
2. Did you try the Demonfx and the Lyr Stacked? Are they different? I think the last one is more expensive, thats why I'm asking.

Checking a lot of affordable options and this one caught my eyes. Take care!

First time posting here but I thought you guys would be interested in this...

I got the LYR stacked version of the Cali76. It sounds fantastic and feels really high quality. The metering works just like the Origin version.

I've not seen a picture of the Origin Stacked guts, but the LYR boards look a lot like the Origin non stacked version...they have even printed "Origin Effacts" with version number on the bottom left of the board...yes "Effacts"

Hey,

I'm not gonna chime in too much with this. To be clear, the LY-ROCK counterfeit pedals are in no way associated with us.

All our pedals are manufactured and designed in the UK. This begins at the product design stage with us designing all our products in Buckingham, UK, and follows through with us having our PCBs populated in the UK, our metalwork manufactured in the UK, and final assembly and test being conducted in the UK. Even our cardboard boxes and product guides are produced, cut and finished locally.

The benefit you’ve not pulled out is that means products built that’s to U.K. quality regulations and standards, U.K. employment law and conditions, and environmental standards

I know it’s been an over a year so I don’t know if you remember. I just bought the CALL76. I’m playing through headphones using my HX Stomp so I’m not sure if the Ratio and Attack knobs are working. What were your settings on the CALL76? I’m noticing more change on the Deluxe Compressor on my HX Stomp more than the CALL76.

i no longer have it so i couldn't tell you. i did keep my Cali76CB though.

If you got a drill, Dremel, and some tape you can cut a window and view the reflection off the bottom of the pedal. I used yellow tape so the blue lights appear greenish. Might change it to clear. It works perfectly and made the pedal much easier to dial in and learn what it’s doing.

I also wiped off the Deamon Logo as the window cut it off and looked bad.

Seen below with two pairs of gain reduction lights. I think there’s up to 8 or 10 pairs to view at full gain reduction.

The pedal sounds great!! I wouldn’t have taken the time to mod it if it didn’t. A fine pedal for the price and if your a set and forget kind of guy you could just set it up with the back cover off so you see the gain reduction lights.

I use different basses and different boards so I wanted to be able to use the lights they already had in there without opening it up.
