Thought on Markbass CMB 121 Blackline

Thank you for your reply. I used to go directly into PA and used IEM when we had our own church building. Now, we don’t have enough number of channels. FOH told us that we have only 4 channels. One is taken by the drummer. One by the leader, one by the keyboard player, one by singers. Only tje drummer use a headphone and the rest are wedges. Guitar player and I do not have our own monitors though guitar amp is miced and goes into PA. Since I do not have my own channel, going into PA and removing amp would make it even more difficult for me to hear myself because no one would want to have loud bass as I do.

By the way, today was ok and I increased mid and treble quite a bit in the amp. I could not cut bass because the amp had a problem. Also, I increased the volume. Others complained thst it is too loud but I insisted that it would be ok in the mix. And in the mix, the balance was ok and i could hear myself. So, for now, this would be it until we have a proper system or current amo breaks down.

Then I really encourage you to not use the amp's EQ and to focus on the options in the HX. "Others complained thst it is too loud" is a problem brewing -- they might ask you to stop playing if it's negatively impacting the others.

If you have electric guitar, acoustic guitar and keys, I don't really think you should be shifting too far into the mid range. You might need to accept a more subtle impact on the overall mix -- more bass, less definition. One of the knobs on that amp should be a mid-frequency -- you could play with that. Turn down a bit, and then try moving your mid boost around with that knob -- try lower mids, then try upper mids. But honestly, if you're trying to push a small solid state amp to compete with everyone else, and help you on stage, and sound reasonable to everyone else on stage, it's just not likely to be feasible.

I guess I should have added a bit more details. It was not my judgement, but the FOH guy's opinion that the mix is good with the volume of bass that seemed (to someone) loud on its own. He said to everyone that 'the balance is great.' after playing with that bass sound.

I am not sure if it is ok to share the videos, because it they are not for sharing. But I clipped a recording to get some feedback. Once, I get them, I will stop sharing that. So, please let me know if that is good or not in any ways. Maybe I want a unreasonably loud bass sound. If that is the case, I should know. By the way, the sample is what made me think about upgrading amp and write a post here to get some opinion for upgrading the sound.

Well, yeah, if that was your last settings, I'd say stick with it. You aren't drowning anyone out, your contribution is peeking through in enough places, and everyone can be heard...I'm still a fan of getting the most out of something like the HX, but I'd be plenty happy with the outcome in that recording. Good job!

I don't know if you ended up buying the CMB 121, if you haven't, the Cort CM150B is the exact same amp with a slightly different aesthetic, for a cheaper price.
