Thoughts on Aguilar SL-112 and Tone Hammer combo

Hi folks,

What are your thoughts on Aguilar SL-112 and Tone Hammer combo? I need something small and light weight to gig in clubs with so I'm leaning towards getting this combo. My car doesn't have much trunk space so I need something lightweight, with a small form factor, that will fit in my back seat. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I know that is a great combination. A lot of touring bassist use that rig. The SL's are great cabs. I own two of them. But for needing the money I would not be selling mine.

SL is a rather large form factor for a 1-12 cab. Berg CN112 is significantly smaller and will sound as big or bigger imho. TH heads are great as long as you're not looking for a super hi-fi type of sound.

Neither the cab nor the head are well suited for a super-modern kind of sound, but if you like a more old-school type tone, it's a very portable rig.

The cab does have a rather big footprint for a 112, but on its side it's okay. It's really light, too. Like 25 lbs or something.

It does not put out nearly as much volume as my LDS 112. If you're using it in a rock context, one SL112 might be cutting it close. I've played shows where I needed to cut lows, run the mids a little hot and turn the drive up higher than normal in order to get enough out of it to cut through the mix - but that was with a pretty loud drummer.

I've also found that the TH head doesn't seem like it's as loud as the other heads I have in that power range. It's fine for most of the gigs I play (smaller nyc clubs), but sometimes it seems like it's sweating a little to keep up, even when I run it with a bigger cab. It could just be my imagination, though... I've never tried it side-by-side with my other heads. Powerful or not, it sounds really nice!

Thanks for the input. By any chance, has anyone tried that cabinet with an Ampeg head? I already have one and I'm wondering how it will sound together.
