Thoughts on Bartolini P/J Pickups

So, I'm getting ready to convert my 2001 American Jazz to a P/J. I've always loved Bart's.

Anyone have experience with either of the two different sets they offer at bestbassgear, or on pairing other combinations of Bart P/Js?

I'm likely going to leave it passive for now. I may swap the two volumes for a volume/pan setup though.

Or, try to convince me there is another set of P/Js I should get.

I have the 8s and bc4 j. They have everything I love except they sound a little too dark for me. If you are going to try the barts, go with what they call the Classics. I have been wanting to do that, but have not gotten around to it, since I have so many other pickups I need to get rid of before I bring anymore into the house.

The lawrence P-46 is good also, but I find it compresses a little too much.

Good luck, and let us know what you decide to go with.

Thanks. That's helpful.

i would do a bill lawrence set, no questions, and persoanlly i'd buy another bass instead of modding an am. fender
I used to feel that way until I got an American Fender with one of those sucky AmStd P pickups on it and a white pickguard. But I did uninstall the old pickup without breaking any solders or cutting wires, so nobody will be the wiser when I go to sell it.

changing pickups on any (new/modern) bass isn't an issue with me, but body routing etc to do that is something i would personally never do on anything nice enough to have any sort of value . . .

something like a vintage instrument, either leave it alone or sell it to someone who wants it as is, don't change a thing . . .

I guess I don't get that thinking. I want my jazz to be a P/J. I like how my bass looks and plays. I don't want a different bass. I want that bass with different pickups. American Jazz basses don't really have a ton of value. Now, I could see not routing my Warrior.
