Thoughts on Fender Aerodyne Bass

Hey all,

I am in a position to pick up one of these Aerodyne 4 strings at a great price. I have never played the Aerodyne body type. Any thoughts on this bass. Does the thinner body have any effect on tone? And lastly will a fender jazz neck (Standard) fit on the thinner Aerodyne body.

Thanks guys

I have one and really like it. It's my #1 now. Plays and sounds great through my Hartke rig.

I'm not a fan of Fender but one bass on my GAS list is the one I found on a Japanese web site that boosted an Aerodyne in natural wood 32 scale and fretless. I did an exchange rate on the Yen and it was running around $2300. The shipping is running around $150 -200. For that money Id rather order another Birdsong.

If I were in the market for another Jazz bass right now I'd be looking at an an Aerodyne. Covergirl looks, great feel, and they are tone machines. Big time! They have a lot of that Jazz bass vibe, but that said, these pretty cousins ain't your grandpa's JB, that's for sure.

I've never tried an Aerodyne I didn't like. And I especially am enamoured of the MIJ models that come in Dolphin Grey and Gunmetal Blue finishes. YMMV.

I love mine - P/J. Neck is just fine for me. I did replace the pickups with an EMG Geezer set though. Agree with the comments about the body being on the soft side. I've given mine one tiny ding. It would be hard to notice by anyone else but I know it's there.

I played one of these for years. So awesome in looks, feel, and tone.

I like mine so much I've been browsing another. The one I have was bought already modified (tuners, EMG pickups, Gotoh Bridge), would like to add an all original one to my bass garage at some point.

The only issue I had was that initially, the binding was slightly uncomfortable on my right forearm, but I quickly got use to it and haven't thought of it since.
