Thoughts on Orange Crush pix CRB50BXT BAss Amp

Hi All,

Im planning to buy this amp maybe this weekend or the next. Any thoughts on the amp? I will be using it for practice amp and also for small venue gigs. I hope this is a good amp.

I also have a Hartke bass attack preamp. Will it be good for this amp? Sorry if these questions my be a noob one.

I bought one of these last month as a practice/rehearsal amp, and I returned it a day later. It has a nice sound, but there is a built-in compression that really choked out some of the notes I was playing. I play an active bass, so that may have added to it (overworking the preamp), but it definitely wasn't working for me. It may not be an issue for you, though, but you should be aware of it. On the plus side, it sounded good (minus the compression issue) and seemed to be built well. It also looks great.

Alright! noted man. I am also using an active bass pups. Hmm...Guess I might have to bring my bass and test in the store.

Good idea. Like I said, it may not be an issue for you, and it probably works for a lot of players. It just bothered me to the point where I returned it. I ended up buying the Ampeg BA112 v2 combo instead. $30 more, 25 more watts, and it sounds awesome. It also has a blend -able overdrive signal, fwiw.

Ok..my other option incase i might not like it is a Laney RB3. is that any good?

I've got a Laney combo : it's ok but not great. I was playing a Sterling SUB 4 ( came home with it ) through a Crush 50. The SUB has really hot active pickups, the Crush sounds real beefy. I was just playing away and the salesman in the shop kept coming over and turning the amp up. A few times. After the third time I asked him if it was a bit loud and he told me it was very loud but sounded great.
So, in a shop it did sound the business, whether it is loud enough for gigs is another thing. The 100w version doesn't cost much more.

I was look at one of these and the 'salesman' said they were the best practice amp in the $250.00 range. Anyone want to comment on this? Any other recs in that price range for an old man that just started playing bass and will not be doing any playing except to iratate my wife?

I too wanted to get an Orange combo....my "salesman" talked me out of it ....said the Orange sound is either a love or hate thing...to my regret I didn't get it ...I have since tried one out here and there and would say it is a decently loud good sounding amp if you just want to jam at home and bug the wife :)

I can tell you I did end up with the Fender Bronco amp 10" speaker, 40 watts.....plenty of loud for the above situation!.....plus it has a built in tuner, some great effects and amp models that simulate other brands of amps..included recording software and the ability to add simulated pedals too.....great deal for $250+/-..I like it a lot, and am glad I got the Fender
