Thoughts on Roadworn Fenders

I got my RW P today, my impressions:

The good

a) Weight. First thing that I noticed was how light this bass is, I dont have a scale but I could play this bass all long,
b) Finish. I am not into relic stuff but the finish is beatiful,
c) Sound great

The bad

a) Neck pocket is not great (.73mm) something that does not really botter me but compared with my JO this gaap looks like the grand canyon.
b) Frets edge, wow, they feel like a shark. I wonder if Fender spend some time on this , if I keep the bass I will need to ask my tech guy to work on them.
c) The neck finish, the back of the neck feel so sticky in my hands and this is a deal breaker for me :(... my thumb is glued to the neck, is there is something I can do to make the neck to feel more smooth or this is just the way this finish is?

I really like the bass and I would not mind to spend few more dollars to smoot the frets edges ( althought this is not acceptable in $1K bass), however the main ''problem'' is the stickiness of the back of the neck, any suggestions?

Some fine grit steel wool will do the trick. I bought mine used so I can't comment on the original neck finish. Surprised about the frets too...no issue with mine.

I just got mine used.. Fedex delivered today.. About 8.5 pounds... Stock Pickups sound great as is...
Only thing i did was a better set up. lower the But depth to .008 over 1st fret instead of the fender spec that always feels too high for me.
Plays and sounds great and even . .Its going its first gig tomorrow.
Sure is safer bringing this on a fly date instead of my $$ Alleva Coppolos

I just got a roadworn p and i love it. I really didnt think i would like it as much as i do. I bought it used and the previous owner had replaced the pickups with seymour duncan quarter pound pick ups and it souds great. He also included the original pickups. Is there a big difference in the two pickups.? Would the sounds even be way different if i switched them? Or should i just not mess with it? I got this bass for $450 with a hsc and i am happy i found it. Ive only had it for less than a week now and i am quickly thinking that it may be my go to now.

No bash here, they feel good and play well but look really bad. The mock relic is a fail. I also think they are way over priced vs others MIMs around them such as the classic series. A close out model or used would make a great bass and I would relic it more on my own as soon as I bought it.

Don't get me wrong, I'm in NO way bashing RWs. In fact, it's on my list of future basses. For me, though, I'd take a closer look at the wear patterns and try to make it more closely resemble wear that I would inflict, that's all I was saying.

I think the concept of the Roadworn is awesome. I just think that each person will wear a bass differently, so the "relic" patterns that are on the bass from the factory could use a little tweaking.

Or maybe refinishing entirely, depending on my mood that day.

Picked up a second hand roadworn sunburst Jazz 6 months ago. It's one of my favourite ever basses - comfortable and balanced with a neck that fits like your favourite pair of jeans - and it's gotten more playtime than my 2009 US Jazz (which was also a very nice guitar) . The only change was to drop some raised pole Fralins in.

Love it - want a Fiesta Red one as well now!
