Yes. That seems so. Yet, I find the two RW Jazzes I have make me think of the older basses I have. It is not just the necks, I think there is something else about them, in particular my '08 RW 3tsb, that just nails a vintage Jazz sound.

These instruments do that sound AND they feel great, too. All IMHO. BTW, I have old instruments and have played a number of great old Jazz basses, and YES, I still want a nice old '64 relic...got one for sale??? LOL! :p :p :p

I like my RoadWorn P. My inclination is to think the whole relic thing is stupid, but then I played one. So, I bought it. It sounds and feels good, and I'm not looking at it while playing it. The goofy "wear" on the lower bout can be blacked out, and then it looks more or less like a burst P from more than a few feet away. People in the audience can't really tell that it's one thing or another, and they don't care anyway.

As a reference point, I was playing a gig, after the set.

A somewhat knowledgeable audience member (he knew I was playing Bass :)) came up and said,
"I really like the old Fender basses, is that a 60's P bass you're playin', it sounds like a good old one."

No is was my 2000something Essex (SX) fish hook headstock 3tsb P bass :hmm:

It's a mystery to me, why would you not want your own natural 'relicing' from playing the thing yourself and rather have Humberto fake it for you and then laquer over the marks in the factory...it's perverse. Seen them in shops and close up it looks naff, I say relic basses yourself with sand paper if you have to, that way at least it's 'you'.

Some people like their coffee black, some like crap tons of milk and sugar. Everyone is different. Fender being a wise company, makes various flavors of their offerings for everyone, increasing their sales. What's the mystery?

I own a RW, I dont like the ''relic'' thing, but it sounds and feel better than any other Fender I have owned, actually, I play it more than my very expensive Dingwall, ( it is a great bass by the way)... a RW is something you need to play with your eyes closed and your ears open , there is where they shine .

I have a question in mind. Some mass production Fender instruments lose some quality in years of time. Can anyone compare the '08 or '09 made RW'S to 2012 made ones. The reason why I'm asking is I've experienced that on my Geddy Lee. I have a 2004 made Geddy which plays like a dream but recently I've played a brand new one in a local shop which really disappointed me. The maple neck seemed white like a soap, whereas my 2004 made is almost yellow. And it obviously didn't sound as good as mine... Can anyone compare older and recent RW's? I'm about to order a RW J online, without playing because no stores have in stock where I live...
