My thoughts from this thread about the MP BBBOD:
http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f36/mad-professor-bass-od-615972/index16.html
Different opamp chip. BBBOD uses the LM301; MP uses CA3130. Extra jfet (BF244A) in the MP, while the Honey Bee uses a J201. Green LEDs in the MP and Honey Bee; red LEDs the BBBOD. There are more caps in the MP circuit too...
Long story short is one my first and second glance, this is not a true BJFE BBBOD. It's a BJFE w/ a variance of parts to make a it a more usable machine.
With that said, it IS brighter than the BJFE. With the Nature down, it sounds like the Dark Driving, but only with the gain set low. There is a LOT of gain in the MP circuit.
Also not as touch-sensitive on my first run through the bjfe/DD.
I might add that tonally, I would still take the new bbbod over the bjfe bbbod. I sold the same bbbod three times because I hated the muddiness. The new bbbod feels like the blanket over the amp sound is missing and has been replaced with gain. The new bbbod has waaaaaay more gain than the bjfe ever had. It looks like the second fet/trannie is a booster. The opamp and 1M gain pot shouldn't account for that much more gain.
I made a revision to my DD circuit based on my inspection of the MP circuit that I am trying out at my band's next show. I'll report back. The new BBBOD and DD both sit well in the mix b/c of the mids, especially low mids, and bass response.
