Thoughts on the origin bassrig 64?

So I’m new to recording bass… I’ve been a guitarist for a while and have owned amps and mics, for now I’m getting a good sound for my guitar with the universal audio dream pedal, sounds really close to my fender amp miced up.

bass wise… I’m running my guitar into my Apollo and then through, Tonex plug-in, or amplitube…. I’m just not happy with the tone, sounds kinda fake.

anyone tried the bassrig 64? It’s a bit pricey but it would be one and done.

thanks!

It’s the same as any other hardware solution. You’re committing to a tone on the way into the box as opposed to tweaking it after the fact. If you like the tones available from the 64 or SV for a specific session, and you do a good of dialing them in, you’ll be happy. If not, having flexibility after the fact will be more valuable. I prefer to commit on the way into the box, but that approach may not be appropriate for others.

I’m definitely not opposed to committing, 1 great sound is better an a bunch of average tones. Maybe I’ll pick one up and a/b it

They’re top shelf products. I’m guessing you’ll like the results, just be flexible as-needed per session. The LPF on the SV is a little dark for my taste on some sessions, and on those it’s important to just use what works, even if it means not using that shiny new pedal… which is often challenging :p

Correct!! I just feel the plug ins are very much see through sounding… I really need a more solid sound.

Ya know, if you don't like it when you hear it in your recording, you can still use plug ins and the like to change it after the fact. I don't see it as a "commitment" when you use a piece of gear before it hits your recording rig; I see it as getting you closer to where you want it to be to start with.

The UA Ampeg stuff is top top notch. I record just my DI signal, then I split it out to the SVT3 pro, but I disable the cab emulation so that it's like taking a DI tap off the head. Then I run a send from that track to the SoftTube 8x10 room. Now in mixdown I have 3 tracks of bass. DI bass, DI head, 810 with a mic, all that gets bussed together. Best tone I have been able to get in the studio. I have done it old school as well as the pic will show.
I'll speak some sacrilege, the Helix Ampeg model is pretty much 'perfect'.
Line6 and Ampeg are both owned by Yamaha... Hmmm...

Definitely worth a try. I can squeeze really sweet sounds out of the Ampeg. But for me the 800RB is the cherry on top. I have an original 800rb and this plugin is so close to it. You'd never notice the difference in a mix.

this one is nice.

GK Amplification 3 Pro

i JUST completed my BX Ampeg collection with the VR today - holy cr@p!

i've spent the last few weeks trying to dial in Helix Native bass tones.

I've tried every combination of Amp/Cab, Amp/IR, Preamp/Power Amp/IR - they all sound so similar.

Compared to Brainworx especially (native).

Even the Helix Bassman is weak compared the the BX Bassude.

Just the old Pro4 with whatever stock cab. I'ts not settings to settings exact, Like I think i had to add a little more bass than the real thing, but was able to get the juice no prob. My second fav is the UAD ampegs. Of course nothing compares to the real thing as far as blowin your pantlegs around... What kind of Ampeg are you comparing it to in the real world?
