"THUMB REST" question

Rick Rosas (Neil young) plays with his thumb now.

Playing with thumb is very satisfying on a fender bass with the PUP cover (to rest your hand on) and the tugbar IMHO

The use of the thumb comes from fingerstyle guitar. Guitarists in that style are accustomed to playing bass lines with the thumb, which is why Leo thought that guitarists doubling on bass (the original target market for the Precision)would want to play that way.

There are many! Check 'em out. Both solo career stuff and with the Police

Brian Wilson only played the bass this way. Plenty of old videos you should easily find.

I was thinking the same thing. All of those old Beach Boy videos.

I have a "test" on the treble side of my 1997 '62RI. It is a bit of a pain in the A$$ and will likely get around to removing it one day.

Why oh why can't we make this a sticky? This question is asked so often it should be up there permanently.

This is possibly the MOST asked question across all bass forums...or it runs a close #2 to the eternally unanswerable "which bass should I buy?"
