Thumb rest? Yes or no.

Since I only have played P or J basses, I've found the pickup is a good thumb rest. That's how I learned so my thumb naturally sits there. However, I'm doing a reggae deep-dive currently and needed a rest closer to the neck for the big boom boom, so I screwed a Scrabble tile on to my Jaguar. As someone said, the pick guard is replaceable. Ironically, the E tile was the first one I grabbed out of the box. No one will miss it!
