Thumbrest

I was searching the forums for thumbrest ideas, but couldn't bear the thought of drilling into my bass or gluing to the pickguard....then I had a vision! (ok I was rummaging through my junk to see what I could come up with ) And i came up with this simply perfect idea i just had to share with my fellow bassists....a suction cup! Cheap, easy, non-permanent, and you can place more than one for different positions. Its very comfortable and you can modify it with a razor blade! Hope this helps someone out, made my day!

Have you gigged it?

I would've thought that the pressure you put on it plus the humidity of some gigging environments would cause the suction to go and the thumbrest to fall off.

just did it this morning, but I've gotta tell you, it stays on pretty good, actually takes a little uumph to get it off.

Hmmm, even so I personally wouldn't trust it to stay on for a whole set.

man, just glue to the pickguard..you can buy a new pickguard, and if you are worried about having the original...buy a new one and keep the original for value.... it would cost a little more, but it would grip, and not look ridiculous...

i find it strange that on a Jazz you need a thumbrest... just use the pickups, on a P, i can understand... but to each their own

Clever but I also use the PU as a rest on my Jazz. This could work on the VM TB though as that thing is a real pain. I jam my thumbnail into the edge of the PG.

I think I would rather just used double sided tape than have nips on my bass. Good idea though, ingenuity is a great thing.

The reason i wanted a thumbrest on my jazz is I like the tone I get plucking the strings between the pickup and the neck as oppossed to the tone I get between pups. I also thought that you can easily fine tune the thumbrest position instead of getting only one position after you glue it. Anal? I guess so...Boredom is the mother of invention....

All i know is that it holds up my christmas lights to my window for 4 weeks, and thats with cold on the outside and steam on the inside!
