I did a little further digging and have it now.

1st digit = first digit of year made
2nd digit = first digit of day code
3rd digit = second digit of day code
4th digit = third digit of day code
5th digit = second digit of year made
6th digit is a batch code, it starts at 0, once 699 are stamped this digit changes to a 1
7th digit = that day's production
8th digit = that day's production
9th digit = that day's production


My bass was stamped Wednesday, May 26th, 2021.

Crazy. Our NRs were stamped the same day. Batch 0 and 74th of that day. If I've decoded the Enigma code correctly. Making mine inspected two months after stamping.

Why all the spycraft when developing serial numbers eludes me. But as you say, it's Gibson. Someone likely got paid handsomely for coming up with that. And had some real intellectual sounding* rationale behind it.

*Many, many things can sound intellectual without actually being intelligent.

You do have to let it sit for a while it does it’s magic, but man, it really works.

I guess I didn't go to enough movies, or the right movies...

I seem to recall short films like that were also shown on TV shows like Ed Sullivan and The Smothers Bothers in place of a live (lip-synched) appearance.

I just don't recall seeing any, and I watched those shows a lot. Guessing they just went in one eye and out the other.

I saw Judas Priest this evening. My observations:

1. It was a really good show. Even better when you consider that Halford and Hill (the two remaining originals) are 70 something.
2. Halford can still scream. For the whole show!
3. Faulkner is the star of the show. He is clearly having a good time.
4. Those songs are actually pretty easy - an awful lot of chugging on one power chord.
5. Halford did NOT do his party piece of dropping the Harley on himself.
