NBD!

This folks, is an Oogie. Yes I said, Oogie.
Don't know much about the company, they are out of Quebec.

Gotta check the body wood. Forgot to ask.
33" scale, Reversed Geezer pickup, reverse maple satin neck, Gotoh Res-o-lite tuners. 40mm bone nut. And easy access truss rod.

It is new, just reliced, which I like anyway, and they did a fairly subtle job of it.
It originally came with a kinda orange and black leopard spot looking pg. it wasn't bad, but stood out too much. When I asked if they had any other choices, they offered black or pearloid. I think the pearloid works well!

Only played it for a few minutes, sounds great! Heard good things about the Geezer pups, and they seem to deliver so far!
Guess I'll be selling my MIM P bass now.

Only qualm is neck dive. Going to have to figure out how to move the strap button to the neck, but not sure how with the grommets and no plate.

I paid $800 Canadian to my door, so that's about $600US. Not a bad deal I think. Especially cuz I was half in the bag when I bought it, lol. Could have been worse.

And chicken heads. Cuz they're just fun.

Nice! I just finished a P-bass build with Geezers. I dig 'em a lot!

I know this is probably better suited in the strings thread, but being it is for my '64 T-bird I hope to get a more specific opinion sampling. For the last couple of cycles of strings I have used GHS Progressives, 45-105 med/long scale. I have used them over the years on a few of my basses and like them. However, on the E string they have gone to the tapered bridge-end exclusively which I do not like. (bridge end includes a 2" long single wire to the ball) It's better suited for string-thru which allows the full width of the string to sit on the bridge saddle, which I have on another bass. But on the T-bird the single wire sits on the saddle and lowers the profile/height of the string. On a bridge incorporating individual saddles with height adjustment it may not be a problem, but the (original) T-bird bridge design only has height adjustment at each end. (more general) To raise the E side also raises the A string height so it's hard to get nuanced set-up.

Anyway… what I'm requesting is a set of strings that aren't GHS but aren't too different than them that you would recommend. The Progressives for those who have never used them are 2/3's of the way up on the GHS 'mellow to bright' scale. Their 'Super Steels' and 'Contact Core Super Steels' are above them/brightest. (I don't want strings any brighter than the Progressives) I do like a few of the D'Addario strings which I'm favoring these days but there are a few other brands I've never tried. I appreciate your input but if this is better suited to the string thread - I'll move it there.

I'm currently trying out a couple of sets of Rotosound Roto's RB-45 on two of my Thunderbirds, that I used for my last gig. They are nickel roundwound strings, and are fairly bright - But not overly bright and zingy as the Rotosound RS66 Swing Bass stainless steel strings. They seems to have a warmer sound, which sounds great on the Thunderbirds. Also they come without silk endings, so they fit nicely on a 3-point bridge.

My only complaint about them so far is, they make your fingertips go black - Is this normal for nickel strings?

At first yes, and many (new) strings will do this as well. It will subside eventually - most likely an result of their manufacturing process. Thanks for your insight - the RB-45 set sounds like what I'm after. (I do like nickel strings) Will let you know if I go this route and what I feel about them.

I can't see the pics on my laptop, the gallery won't load, I'll have to wait until I go to work to see them but until then: The grommets only act to stop the screw head pulling through the body as it pulls the body to the neck. So if you used a longer screw with the strap button to reach the full depth of the neck screw you should be fine, if that bothers you then you could always spread the load out with a flat washer or penny washer in between the strap button and body

Good to know... These are my first nickel strings (not counting the cheap stuff that comes on new basses), and I've never experienced "black" fingers when using stainless steel ones...

You mentioned D'Addario - I've been using a the D'Addario EXL170BT - Balanced Tension set on my basses for a while now and really like them, but the keepers get upgraded to TI Powerbass, which are pricey, but seem to last long enough that they more than make up for the difference. They've been my favorite string for a long, long time now.

Interesting comment last night...

I forget at times that while most people never notice the bass player or his bass... a Thunderbird will always get a reaction of some sort. I played for one tune in an oddly interesting local Springsteen tribute show put on by some friends (all top-notch, young musicians.) I pulled out the 50th Anniversary Tbird, played the tune, exited the stage. Show went on, the other bass player used his trusty Squier P and he played and sounded great as he always does... good times.

Last night (two weeks later,) another performer in the show turned to me and said "Hey, what was that bass you played at the show? That thing was super cool. Looks like you could kill someone with it."

I tend to think of them as having super-sexy, flowing lines that just make visual sense... but I guess they also look as aggressive as they sound. Anyway, thought you folks would appreciate that.

Now I've managed to have a good look that's pretty cool, love the colour

If thunderbirds were girls you definitely wouldn't bring them home to meet the family, you'd leave them back in the alley

I feel that you would (bring to meet the family) and the folks would know you are now a power couple! :D
