No doubt. (I remember pics of that and it looked fantastic.) Which is why I completely agree with @JJR58 that Tributes are great buys. Really good instruments a fair amount under a grand. Pickups are all the same as US versions (apparently the pots and wiring are not the same according to JIO). In fact, the Tribute series is so good I'm not sure there are really compelling reasons to justify the much more expensive US versions. Do you or Jeff know when they were MIJ?
The "New" M2000 series (US or Tribute, makes no difference) was a just a disappointment. Would be better with the normal MFDs but with a blend. But for those who don't care for the aggressive nature of MFDs, maybe the "M" series pickups are a good option.
I was always surprised G&Ls were not more popular in metal bands since they can be in your face like no other bass I've ever played. But they are not just loud and aggressive by any means.

This bass shows up from time to time here and on Facebook. I'm surprised to see it on CL but I really like it and it's a one of a kind. I don't think the price is realistic though.

Exactly. To me, it is worth exactly the same amount as any other modern Thunderbird. Except I don't like the suntan lotion logo on it. So less maybe. I collect 'em to play 'em.
If it were played in that ad by a notable bassist then maybe it could command a higher price than any other bass of that vintage/model but it hasn't. I see $2k tops if you just need to have a one of a kind Thunderbird.
Everybody’s crank gets turned by different things--but even at that price there's a lot of basses I'd drop $2k on other than that.

I'd have to research it. G&L wasn't on my radar; I was just searching for a Strat for $500 or less. I was hoping for a bit older beater (and in fact found one but didn't jump fast enough). Then I ran across the Legacy and fell in love.
I've seen that for sale before. Don't recall where. It's been a couple of years. Pretty cool, though.
