Oh, the first Genzler that was here, lost, went to Tx, came back, went back to Tx and then here again was delivered--after it was refused a few days ago and I was assured it would go back to seller. I'm taking it to the post office tomorrow. I now question anyone's intelligence who would use FedMess.

It's probably tired.

No, Sunn originally used JBL as their top of the line speakers, so D130s, D140s, and the D15S (OEM D130s made for Sunn). Those were loaded in the 200s, 2000s, 1500s, and 1000s cabinets, as well as some of the other models depending on year. After 1970 they started offering options for speakers in catalogues, including EVs and Cerwin Vegas, and most of the base line cabinets started getting loaded with Sunn labelled speakers. Artists had been able to request speakers prior to this, such as Noel Redding who, IIRC, had his 2000s cabs loaded with Altecs. After around '72 they switched to the S, M, & V nomenclature, with Vegas being their default upgrade options.

Yeah, most 2000s cabs came stock with JBL D140s. And they certainly do put out a lot of SPL. I still use mine regularly, here's the 2000s rig on stage earlier this month:

I wish I had kept mine, I used them with a Marshall Major. I had one of the heads too but later on after I sold the cabs. Ruby Rick or stage lights?

JBL’s in Sunn cabs were the perfect match.
As far as 15’s go.

Random aviation pic.
But some of you might guess it.
Was a fun night for me.

(Give away hint)
Drinks are served there.

I keep a few of them around, last count was...4, plus a home made one and a 1200s 6x12 in need of a restoration. I love the damn things, if only they were easier to move! The Rick is one of my Grecos, it's Mapleglo, but the stage lights do make it look red! That one's getting a Lollar T-bird pickup in the neck as soon as I get the new pickguard in from Pickguardian.

Still the golden standard for cabinets for me, which makes it hard to find others I find up to snuff! Currently on the lookout for some of the old Fender Bassman VT cabs (Bassman 50/70 diagonal 2x15) to put some JBLs in for a more portable rig.

I could have bought one several years ago at a Music-Go-Round (used music stores). Just didn't need that much amp to justify it. Bought my first Ampeg V4-BH (100w tube head) and have been happy ever since.

Depending on what year it was, Sunn 2000S heads were only 120 or 150 watts RMS, so not a whole lot of difference.

I never knew Greco made a 4000. I have a '67 Silverface Bassman, it's got the large cab but has 2 12"s in it.

I so hear you.
And they'd be perfect in that Bassman cab.

My very next favorite were Altec 421's.
Totally different sound.
But not in Sunn cabs.

They didn't ever make one from the factory, but they did make some of the PMB-800 (Paul McCartney Bass, their designation for their version of the 4001S) in White with black guards. That one came to me with someone having painted the guard white (as well as the chrome pickup surround and cover), so instead of stripping the paint off that, I decided to have Pickguardian make me a 4000 guard and convert it.

Having been to KC and had barbecue there, I can say that I'm not a sauce kind of person. Good barbecue doesn't need sauce, and they make good barbecue in Kansas City. If you like the sauce, fair enough. But it isn't necessary if you do it right. That's my absolutely correct and irrefutable opinion.
Too many places drown the meat in sauce and call it BBQ'ed. WRONG!

The silver face/earlier version is more desirable, but the circuit is the same AFAIK. Hell, for $200 I'd snag it. They aren't for everyone, but loads of people like them and have used them with great success.

The S vs M designation referred to the speakers they originally came with, S designating Sunn speakers, and M designating Sunn Magna speakers. V meant Cerwin Vega speakers. All the same cabinet, just what speakers were loaded in them.
So those letters actually mean something? Hey Gibson-take note.
