The Fixer (Mike), wanted me to pass along this message to the gang here.
It’s a little bit of a read, but it’s heart felt.
Greetings ThunderFriends!
El Jeffe mentioned that some of you were wondering about me. You’re not alone. My Dad always wondered about me too (said I was ‘tetched’). You may recall I had been through some low times. Some of you helped me through them. I’m happy to report that I’m doing WAY better than I have in years, thanks to major lifestyle changes. I’ve been meditating, eating better, replacing prescriptions with natural alternatives, and being more physically active. I’m feeling better, looking better, and smelling better! I’m afraid my pursuits as a bass player have waned. For one thing… bass players just think different. I’d probably understand the bass better if I’d been more musically educated, & had a better understanding of what goes with what, & how things work together, but even with that… technique baffles me. Anything beyond rudimentary Blues & Rock playing & my mind is easily blown. It is my finding, that it’s easier bumble around on the guitar & make it sound like you know what you’re doing, than it is on bass. I wouldn’t trade the time that I spent with you guys for anything though. You opened my eyes to so much! I listen to music quite a bit differently now than I did before picking up the bass & talking with y’all. Hell… if it hadn’t been for you guys, I never would’ve learned what a badass John Entwistle was! I’ve listened to damnear the entire Who catalogue with new ears, and become a MUCH bigger fan since you turned me on! In more recent news… after learning about significant advancements in the world of electronic drums, I took the plunge & got an Alesis Strike Pro SE kit (I won’t bore you with a complete review, but I wish I’d gotten a kit from a company called EfNote. They’re geared more towards people who’re playing e-drums, but would rather be playing acoustic drums). It’s taking a lot of getting used to, but it feels incredible to be able to play the instrument I was born to play again! I’ve only had ‘em for a couple months. It took a while to figure out how to use ‘em, but I’m slowly building some endurance & gettin’ some of the old chops back. If I can learn how to use all this electronic gobbledy-gook, maybe some of us can jam together online! I still love the bass. Of course I still have “Uncle Ambrose” (my blue Thunderbird), as well as a GK700RB & a Genz Benz 1x15 cab… and a Thunderbird NR still holds a top 5 slot on my bucket list. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to call myself a “bass player”, but I do love it, and it will always be a part of my life. Thank you to all the Thunderbird brothers & sisters!

All good to hear!Well said, Mike. Fully agree. And if liquid toughness/courage/ was involved, my advice was always, don't drink what your not man enough to handle.

Thanks for this, Jeff! Please pass along my best wishes. I'm less of a hack on bass than anything else, but I get it. Also the lifestyle changes, etc.

That's sounds a Ric, I don't think I ever saw him with anything else, he was a great player.

True. When a kid I used to think adults seemed so smart, generally. As I've grown older I discovered that all adults aren't adults, just children in bigger bodies. I'm sure I've fit that more than I'd like to admit.
Seems like I saw one pic where he was playing something else. Shocked me because I had never seen him with anything but a Ric.
As said above by Bob, he was a great player. No flash at all but likely as good as they come.
He can pop in here anytime as far as I’m concerned.

He was a man with a plan. Documenting one of the 'greatest'/long running rock bands from the inside was a worthy effort. I was amazed that he kept all their costumes over the years. Museum stuff.

Yah, thanks for posting. We all have stories and I feel his is honest and open. Glad to hear he's working on making it real - it's a goal we all are involved with in one degree or another.
