Made it out to check out the G2 today they also had a new NR there.

G2 - Looks very sharp in person. Pretty good quality control for what I've seen from Gibson. Finish looked good all around. Pickguard logo does look pretty silly in person. Hipshot bridge and ultra lite tuners are a nice upgrade. Balanced well on my lap, didn't have a strap to stand with. Neck felt slightly wider, not quite p width, but wider than a j. The neck shape was pretty substantial as well a pretty thick C shape. I really liked it, but probably not for everybody. The gloss finish on the neck was pretty sticky. As for sound it was somewhat hot. Big and full but not boomy. The bridge pickup soloed was actually full enough to play solo with no issues. The neck was kinda scooped sounding, not really my thing soloed. The two played well together and could go from thick and fat if played softly to ballsy and aggressive with a heavier touch. Way more versatile than I anticipated.

NR - Thinner more jazz like neck with less meat on the neck as well. Finish quality control was not very good at all. Painted neck looked atrocious where it met the fretboard. More warm, mellow, vintage sound than the G2 overall. Low e didn't have much presence in the sound. Maybe the pickups needed to be adjusted, but to the naked eye they looked decently placed. Bridge pickup was thinner and more nasal than the G2. Neck pickup soloed was a cool sound, but the e was not quite right.
