yeah, seemed like smaller guys and gals favored those Mustangs and Musicmasters….…..always wondered if one was used to record this….the bass tone is uber tasty…..of course ymmv…

Moulding could pretty much make anything sound great.
Fretwork is done. And the rough cutout of the pickguard.

The pickups look right at home there.
Philadelphia Luthier has them in various finishes. Including chrome.
Hate the body style of both the Mustang and MusicMaster. So I made my own.
1978 Mustang (neck):
Curtis Novak Mustang pickup.
1978 MusicMaster (neck):
Curtis Novak MusicMaster MM-V pickups (RWRP) under the blank Jazz covers.
Both bodies are from Warmoth, perfect proportion to the short scale neck. Had to order both with no neck pocket cut so that it could be cut to match the narrower base of the neck of these older necks.
These both are a joy to play and sound particularly good.
Here’s something else that’s fun, while we’re talking short (or smaller) scale things. This never felt complete to me:
