Hello T-bird enthusiasts! I’m about to pull the trigger on a Bi-Cen 79 T-bird. I like a really low action and have heard the neck angle and bridge can be limited with action. How low can you get the action on these basses? Any info is appreciated, cheers, Brian.

Mine is a 1976 and the action is fine, and I like somewhat low action and don't play hard. My issue is the neck wants/has more relief than I do, so have to work that out as I have done a fair amount of truss rod adjusting. Aside from that, I have no problem getting low action. If you can play it and it doesn't look like it has room for adjusting (bridge or neck), I would pass. Nothing enjoyable about a bass that doesn't play well.

I had a copper metallic, '71 Nova 350 4 speed and it was a fast car. That 454 would be a speed demon! Plus I love the color.

What effects do you like to use on with your Tbirds? I find them to be very responsive to effects. Love some overdrive with them. Other preferences?


I want to change the stock strings on mine. I like to pick a Tbird….was thinking some roto stainless steels. Suggestions?

I had said I was gonna take the 67 to the concert band rehearsal last night, even though transporting it-and the other [stuff] I use is a bit of a hassle. Well...I shouldn't have done it. It sounded so much richer and fuller than the Ibanez semi-hollow I usually use for that situation. I had to significantly lower the "normal" settings on the amp to keep from being too loud. Remember, I'm s'posed to be emulating an acoustic upright bass. I guess I've created a 'monster'.

I’m partial to SIT Power Steels or Dunlop Marcus Miller Stainless Steel Superbrights on most of mine

I’m with you re effects. Drive from the on board preamps from the SVT or my Mesas is pretty much it for me. But stainless rounds for the win re strings.
