Used the Squire today. Been fighting some kind of sinus thing and felt like.... But I have to admit that thing sounds really good. Really warm sounding. I found I tended to like the "thinner" of the two options (which isn't thin) the best I think. Had a touch more upper mid bite it seems.
Plays great and no dead spots I noticed. Really great playing and comfortable bass. A tad lighter wold be nice but I didn't find myself thinking about the weight much when playing. Some Squires may not be well done, but this one sure is. I might ditch the color regardless of what I do.
I had DTFs on it and was completely happy with what I was hearing but might try a different string Wed for the heck of it. I really expected I would not be thrilled given it sounded really good at home but was shocked how good it sounded. Who knew? I'm definitely going to have to play it a few times before I seriously think about pulling the pup and installing the Koreabucker. But I'm thinking if that strat pup sounds that good, how good will the Thunderbird style pup sound? Who knew this crazy thing would actually sound good?
