Thunderbird Club

I got this Classic IV a month or so ago but haven't been here much because we're moving. I made the guard and truss rod cover myself out of blank. I thought the white on white was too much and the black on black at the headstock the same.

I really like it! I got it "used" from GC site, seems new to me and the price was great.

VERY nice! Now all it needs is a white TBird on the PG!

If you order from WD, be sure to send them an exact tracing of your gard'. They're not cheap and I had to return the first one as the mounting holes did not line up. Then I had to pay more for a "custom" gard' because they made one from my tracing. If I simply wanted to return the one that didn't fit, they would have charged me a 15% re-stocking fee.

Brushed steel and smoked mirror here.

Mike Lull uses chrome ones.

The PG and TRC started out as stainless steel, I had them chrome plated :)
Pretty sure this bass will be getting one of Scott's (GodofThunder59) new two point bridges.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ag0uZQmxneI Don't know if i had posted this already, but here's me (bass/vocals) with my band a year ago at club soda in montreal, qc. Verge of losing my voice half way through our 7 song set. Luckly, this song didn't require any effort :D. And was the best received and crowd pleaser. Enjoy

Hey that's fun stuff Andii, :bassist: The T Bird sound good, you're on a hiatus for awhile tho?

Thanks, tbird always sounds better through a huge rig rather than my small little practice amp ;). And Unfortunately yes. We've been on hiatus since this summer. Some minor conflict within the band, not enough practicing time either. Also personal issues within our lives that prevented us from actually practicing and playing gigs. But we've kept contact and we're planning on getting together this upcoming summer. Playing acousticly outside. It's going to be sweet.

You said playing acoustically outside, You probably didn't mean an acoustic bass, but that made me think.. How awesome does an acoustic Thunderbird be? Would look AMAZING

Howdy fellow Thunderbirders!

I'm having a tone issue with my Thunderbird, at least I think it's the 'bird, since I've checked almost all other factors... I'm really not sure this is the right place to ask, but it's as good as any... (I already posted at the repair page...)

I play a 2012 Gibson Thunderbird through a Markbass Littlemark 250 Blackline, and a GK 112 or an Ampeg 410. I've been taking lessons for the first time in 4 years, and my teacher pointed out to me that my bass has a lot of nasty fluctuating overtones, specifically on the C (3rd fret, A string) and G (3rd fret, E string). It happens mostly when playing over the neck pickup, much less so on the bridge pickup.

My teacher thoguht it was perhaps my effects that put my signal in anti-phase, but I thought I'd test all the elements in the equasion.

I switched strings (d'Addario flats to EBS rounds), cabs, amp, 3 different cables (although I'm npt sure of their quality, I know they're not top-notch, but decent, though),... I don't want to EQ this out, because it seems to be a structural issue...

Could this be my bass, the pick-ups perhaps? Or are overtones that normal, and is it my playing (the teacher has it too, so I doubt it)? Maybe I'm overly focues on this, now that I hear it?

Any advice?

try lowering the pickup

try lowering the pickup

Very good advice, hot pickups can overdrive the preamp causing harmonics. Especially if the overtone is worse at full volume on the bass. The neck pickup is usually the hotter of the two and t-birds do seen to have a big output. This was the issue with my first thunderbird.

For grins, it's easy to check intonation at the 12th fret with an electronic tuner. I have also heard rumors that string silks on the saddle or nut can cause bad vibrations.
